The Value of Personalization
Personalization has become more critical than ever in driving customer engagement and revenue growth. According to McKinsey & Company’s 2021 Next in Personalization Report, 71% of consumers now expect companies to deliver personalized interactions, and 76% become frustrated when this doesn’t happen1. This underscores the increasing demand for tailored experiences in today’s market.
Furthermore, the report reveals that companies excelling at personalization generate 40% more revenue from these activities than average players. Leaders in personalization can achieve revenue lift ranging from 10% to 15%, with the most significant gains coming from organizations that closely tailor their offerings to individual consumers1. This demonstrates the substantial financial impact that effective personalization strategies can have on a business.
In the context of changing consumer behaviors—where 75% of consumers have switched to new brands, products, or purchasing methods during the pandemic—personalization is not just advantageous but essential. The McKinsey report notes that 78% of consumers are more likely to make repeat purchases from companies that personalize content, and 76% are more likely to consider purchasing from brands that personalize1.
Implementing a personalization service positions Jub to meet these heightened consumer expectations and capitalize on the associated revenue growth.
Where have other paint companies spent money creating personalized services?
Many paint companies have invested in color personalisation services and products to enhance customer experience. For instance, Behr’s ColorSmart tool, Benjamin Moore’s Personal Color Viewer, and Dulux’s Visualizer App allow customers to select and visualize paint colors in various settings. These tools primarily focus on helping customers choose colors by offering visual simulations and coordinating palettes.
Other paint companies utilize standard chatbots to provide customer support. While these chatbots can handle basic inquiries, they are far inferior to modern Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology. Standard chatbots often rely on scripted responses and lack the ability to understand complex, personalised queries. For example, they may struggle with specific questions like, “What color should I choose for a child with ADHD?” In contrast, a RAG system can process such nuanced questions and provide expert, tailored advice based on a vast knowledge base.
Some companies, like Dulux Australia, have taken a different approach by employing real customer service agents to assist customers through live chats or phone calls. While this method provides personalized support and a high level of service, it has certain limitations. Human agents are not available 24/7 and can be costly for the company to maintain. Additionally, many consumers now prefer the convenience and immediacy of automated solutions. According to a survey by Salesforce, 69% of consumers prefer to use chatbots for quick communication with brands due to faster response times, and 71% are willing to use AI 1. This indicates a growing preference for efficient, technology-driven customer service.
Standard chatbots, however, often fall short in delivering the depth of personalization that customers seek. They rely on scripted responses and may not effectively handle complex or nuanced queries. Modern RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) technology bridges this gap by providing personalized, context-aware recommendations and engaging in more natural, conversational interactions. It combines the efficiency of automation with the depth of human-like understanding, offering a superior customer experience compared to standard chatbots or solely human-led customer service.

One of the key features of our platform is the RAG, a custom built retriever that decides when to pull information from our databases, when to pull information from ChatGPT, and how to pull from both at the same time, to give well crafted answers to the inputted questions.
SIQ pAInter consists of highly structured data and a retriever that understands when and how to pull that information. For each request a decision has to be made – Does the user want help deciding which paint is right for them, product-specific guidance, a calculation to help them with quantity, or colour help? Each of these requests require different data, a different response, and the ability to collate this to get desired consistent answers.
There’s no easy way to do this. No shortcuts, no plugins or off the shelf solution. Our platform consists of multiple databases, a lot of code, great prompts, and importantly has been built to answer paint specific questions.
